As Sir Edgar plots to seize power from Prince Charmont (Char), he enlists the aid of his menacing pet snake, Heston.  Heston is a bit smarter than his master because he is very intelligent for a talking snake.

While he follows his master's orders without question, he shows great stealth in spying on people.  When Heston shares that Ella, who plans to marry Char, has the "gift of obedience", Sir Edgar convinces her to kill the prince. The plan seems to be working until Ella realizes she has the power to reverse the "gift".

After another failed attempt at killing Char, Heston is trampled by Char's fan club, and Sir Edgar accidentally places a poison-ridden crown on his head. If it hadn't been for all this, Ella and Char would have never been married.
